Southwest Behavioral Health Services was established in 1969 as a federally funded program under a partnership known as St. Luke's - Jane Wayland Community Mental Health Center. Incorporated in 1974 as a nonprofit agency, it is one of the largest, community-based behavioral health care providers in Arizona. With more than 400 employees, the agency s service area includes the Phoenix metropolitan area, as well as western Maricopa and northern Gila counties in Arizona. Southwest Behavioral Health Services offers individual and group counseling sessions for a variety of behavioral health problems experienced by children, adults and families. It also offers substance abuse programs that focus on outpatient care for alcohol and drug abusers and their families through individual, group and family therapies. The Community Services division of Southwest Behavioral Health Services provides prevention and early intervention care for youths and adolescents in local schools and communities. Its Homeless Outreach is a nonprofit program to help homeless individuals with mental illnesses. The agency has received the State Compensation Fund Safety Award. Southwest Behavioral Health Services is a member of the Arizona Coalition to End Homelessness and the Community Development Coalition of Arizona.
