South Mountain High School, also known as SMHS, serves more than 2,035 students. Established in 1954, the school offers classes in English, mathematics, performing arts, science and social studies. It also conducts sessions in various foreign languages, such as French and Spanish. South Mountain High School provides special education classes for students with learning difficulties. The school administers English as a Second Language and Title I programs. It operates a library and has over 270 staff members. The school offers a range of sports activities, such as tennis, basketball, cross-country, soccer, and track and field. South Mountain High School is a part of the Phoenix Union High School District.
