Sion Power holds more than 45 patents. The company is a developer of electrochemical energy storage systems. Sion uses the high electrochemical potential of lithium and combines it with sulfur to attain superior rechargeable performance. Sion is developing a new generation of rechargeable lithium batteries for mobile electronics and electric vehicles. Based on five times higher energy available from sulfur ions compared to other lithium chemistries, Sion s cell offers significant improvements in capacity, operating temperature and discharge rate. The company is a technology spin-off from Brookhaven National Laboratories and was incorporated as Moltech Corporation in 1994 and in 2002, the company changed its name to Sion Power. Sion is located in Tucson, Ariz.
