Early residents in Sedona, Ariz., concerned about their small town s need for fire protection, created a volunteer fire department. As the needs for personnel and apparatus increased, full-time firefighters were added and teamed with volunteers to respond to the community. The Sedona Fire District has more than five stations, four of which are staffed 24-hours a day by full time firefighters and medics. SFD provides suppression and emergency medical services for an area encompassing approximately 160 square miles, which include an annexation of nearly 40 square miles west of the city of Sedona. The operations division of the department includes emergency medical services, fire suppression, technical rescue teams, chaplains, wild land fire management, community involvement, an emergency operations center. a variety of training programs and a mountain bike rescue program. The Sedona Fire District is located in Sedona.
