The Salvation Army is a religious organization that preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ to help disadvantaged, homeless, hungry and destitute individuals. As an evangelical ministry of Universal Christian Church, it works to meet the needs of human beings. The ministry maintains more than 9,000 local units and centers throughout Arizona, New Mexico, California, Georgia, Illinois, Texas, and Nevada, as well as serves more than 3 million families and individuals annually. It follows the guidelines for social services in the scriptures of Old Testaments and New Testaments. The Salvation Army also offers medical assistance, counseling and relapse prevention services for individuals who suffer with substance abuse and drug addiction. Additionally, the ministry organizes several fundraising drives for packaged water and food items.
