History
Precision Guitar was started by Luthier Ron Carriveau in the 1970s. In the 1980s the shop became a pioneer in the development and production of the first solid body acoustic-electric guitar. Ron retired in the 1990s and sold the business to his long-time employee, Thad Robosson, who moved the shop to its current location on 7th Avenue and built a reputation for quality work and service. Thad retired from the business in 2006 and sold the shop to the current owner, James Robertson, who has kept the reasonable pricing and great service going, as well as increased the parts and accessories on hand.
Specialties
Precision Guitar is a full service standalone shop specializing in the repair, service, and modification of fretted musical instruments. We carry the largest stock of parts in town as well as a small selection of new and used guitars, amplifiers, and effects. We have a good string selection and carry harmonicas as well. Our services cover just about anything relating to guitar repair: all types of fretwork, refrets, setups, crack repair, neck resets, headstock breaks, acoustic bridge fabrication and replacement, finish work, and electronics. A significant part of the business is fabrication and online sales of custom replacement pickguards. We'll work on vintage vacuum tube amplifiers as well. We will meet or beat any advertised price on EMG, TV Jones, Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, Bill Lawrence USA, Dearmond, Guild, Fender, Fishman, and L.R. Baggs pickups. We do written instrument appraisals and can custom assemble or build your dream guitar.
