Navopache Electric Cooperative came into being in 1946 when people of the White Mountains banded together to form their own electric cooperative and provide electric service to their homes and businesses. The electric cooperative has continually expanded from a few miles of power lines in the Lakeside area to a service area of almost 10,000 square miles in eastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico. Power is purchased from Public Service Company of New Mexico, (PNM), located in Albuquerque, N.M. Power is purchased from a mix of generation resources throughout the southwest through a secure long-term wholesale delivery contract between NEC and PNM.Service has now expanded into more than 25,500 homes and businesses. The cooperative has headquarters in Lakeside, Ariz., and service branches in Springerville, St. Johns, Overgaard, Whiteriver, Ariz. and Reserve, N.M.
