Optimal Health By Dr Aneela: Aneela Mahmud, MD
About Optimal Health by Dr. AneelaAneela Mahmud, MD, MDH, is an internal medicine physician (also known as an internist) and founder of Optimal Health by Dr. Aneela, her transformational coaching practice. She is a certified life coach and licensed in AZ by the Board of Homeopathic and Integrative medicine. At her coaching practice in Phoenix, Arizona, she works closely with patients to bring awareness that illness and imbalance does not occur on the physical level alone. Addressing issues on the physical level alone will bring about limited results. She counsels patients on the "Vital Force" a key concept in homeopathic medicine and how imbalance in our lives causes destabilization of this Vital Force and increased susceptibility to illness. She helps to bring awareness to identify and understand the vital force and how to move toward homeostasis and adapt to the evolutionary stimuli that are arising in our lives organically. She has certicates in Jungian psychology and German New Medicine and uses these tools to understand a patient's specific mind-body-psyche-soul connection. She also draws on spiritual psychology seeing an individual not just as an individual but a spirit. She also sees the patient as not simply an individual but in the context of the family emotional unit from which they come and the generations that have come previously. As an internist Dr. Mahmud understands and is able to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including chronic diseases like diabetes. She also cares for patients with mental health conditions and helps people with complex autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and related disorders such as chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. Dr. Mahmud completed medical school at Khyber Medical School in Peshawar, Pakistan. After graduating, she moved to the United States and completed her internal medicine residency at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois. She then completed a fellowship in infectious diseases and a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical microbiology. Before opening up her practice, Dr. Mahmud worked as a primary care doctor but found limitations to a strictly pharmaceutical approach. She is passionate about her patient's whole health, mind, body, and soul. Instead of a one-size-fits-all, cookie-cutter approach, she keeps the individual patient in mind. Dr. Mahmud sees lifestyle medicine as the future to truly improve the health of individuals in the U.S. She has a background in Eastern and Western medical approaches and sees that many modern-day ailments can be improved by taking an Eastern philosophical approach to living, including honoring daily and seasonal rhythms and having a healthy outlook on everyday challenges and stresses. She believes in the Daoist philosophical approach of moving with life and not against it. Dr. Mahmud also believes that body movement is essential to balance and restore chi. She is a medical chi gong practitioner and offers classes.Dr. Mahmud is licensed in homeopathy due to her passion for helping patients live in harmony with themselves and the forces of nature. She has certification in Jungian psychology to understand dreams and recurring themes that are coming up in patients' lives.Outside of her practice, she enjoys good music and practices playing the harmonium, the harp, and devotional music. She also enjoys reading about psychology and religious philosophy. Dr. Mahmud is committed in her path to evolve her understanding of herself in relation to the world.
