Grand Canyon Railway operates vintage locomotives that offer a 65-mile tour from Williams, Ariz., to the Grand Canyon. The company s steam locomotives were designed to run on coal, but have been modified to burn oil, a cleaner and more efficient fuel source. These trains run from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Vintage diesel engines run during the winter months. The Grand Canyon Railway travels a rail that is more than a century old and runs at approximately 40 miles-per-hour. The company offers a few travel packages that include transportation on the train, one, two or three nights in Williams and the Grand Canyon and breakfasts and dinners. The Grand Canyon Railway also operates the GCR Hotel, Max & Thelma s Restaurant and the historic Williams Depot.
