David Carfagno, DO, CAQSM, is board-certified in sports medicine, internal medicine and ringside medicine (ABRM). Having done his internal medicine residency and sports medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, he specializes in endurance medicine, exercise physiology and sports nutrition, with expertise in weight management, aging athletes, sarcopenia, low testosterone, mitochondrial dysfunction and orthopedic non-operative MSKUS diagnostics and injections. Dr. Carfagno provides comprehensive testing, including laboratory work, DEXA body/ composition, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (VO2), resting metabolic rate assessments and wearable technology evaluations. His motto, "treat and compete," reflects his role as medical director locally and nationally for several races and event series, and he participates in them as well, with TEAM USA in triathlons, having competed in five World Championships. He also founded a cardio club for dogs and their owners in 2009. As a proud Arizona native and former USD/ASU football player and fitness trainer, Dr. Carfagno has over 25 years of experience in inpatient and outpatient care, focusing on athletes from those with medical challenges to elite performers. His extensive experience with endurance series and combat sports allows him to create personalized programs to enhance athletes' health and performance.
