WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is a supplemental food and nutrition program for pregnant and breastfeeding women and infants and children up to five years. The program provides nutrition information, counseling services and periodic health screenings. It additionally offers food vouchers for infant formula and healthy foods. Located in Anchorage, Alaska, it is operated by Municipality of Anchorage, which operates through community development, community development, fire, finance and information technology departments. Its health and human services department provides preventive health care services, such as immunizations, testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, breast and cervical health screenings, communicable disease investigations and controling tuberculosis.
