The Division of Public Assistance is one of the divisions managed by the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. Its more than 400 staff members provide public assistance and supportive services to over 13,000 Alaskan families. The division s child care program monitors, regulates and licenses child care facilities across the state and further promotes the capacity and accessibility in child care with a special attention to infants and children with special needs. The Division of Public Assistance operates a special medical assistance program for people in the age group of 21 to 64. It additionally operates food benefit and heating assistance programs. The Division of Public Assistance maintains one of its offices in Anchorage, Alaska.
