The Metlakatla Indian Community (MIC) is the only Indian Reserve in the State of Alaska, located on Annette Islands, 20 miles south of Ketchikan. With a population of 1460, the community's economy is primarily based on fishing, seafood processing, services, tourism, and forest products.
Established in 1887, under the leadership of Anglican missionary William Duncan, Metlakatla holds great value in preserving its culture and traditions, while also promoting sustainability and self-governance. The MIC Tribal Council governs the affairs of the Annette Islands Reserve, working towards improving the lives of its members and protecting their land and water for future generations.
