Established in 1996 by a group of commercial fishermen, the museum aims to safeguard the stories and culture of Kodiak's commercial fisheries amidst rapid technological changes in the industry. While KMM does not yet have a dedicated museum facility, it actively produces walking tours, exhibits, live performances, and other interpretive activities throughout Kodiak and Alaska.
