The Division of Alaska State Troopers (AST) is charged with services for statewide law enforcement, prevention of crime, and pursuit and apprehension of law offenders. It maintains public peace and order, enforces criminal laws and investigates violations of laws. The division also conducts and manages search and rescue operations. The Division of Alaska State Troopers supports and assists other law enforcement and government agencies. In addition, it provides training to law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. The division investigates allegations of human abuse or neglect, as well as responds to the concerns and inquiries of citizens. It also assists with civil and criminal processes, prisoner transportation and central communications. The Division of Alaska State Troopers is a part of the Alaska Department of Public Safety and maintains a state troop post in Soldotna, Alaska.
