History
The Tally Ho has been a restaurant continuously of more than 70 years. Paul and Renee Wilkerson are the current owner, having purchased the business in 2013. The date has never been established when the Tally Ho was built. It is located in Buena Vista Heights, which was subdivided along Mangum Avenue into 27 lots. The subdivision was registered 22 April 1926 by Chambliss and Ada Keith, reference in book 1, page 165, Dallas County Court House, Selma, Ala. The Buena Vista Heights area was used, during the Civil War, in the defense of Selma, by a hurriedly established rag-tag army of young lads and old men. They scattered when the Federals arrived. Upon arrival of Gen. Wilson, cannon were emplaced on the ridge above Mangum Ave. to lob shells into the downtown area, where the Confederate Arsenal was located along the Alabama River.
