History
In 1963, the Rt. Rev. George M. Murray, Bishop Coadjutor of Alabama inspected and approved a swap of four lots for the original site which was cut off from access by land or water. On Sunday, June 28, 1964 services were conducted near the site by Henry R. Lusher, Jr., a Lay Reader of the Church. There were twelve Episcopalians gathered from the area for the service of Morning Prayer. The service was conducted in the open air pavilion of the Delta Port subdivision. Services were held each Sunday during the summer months. In the Fall of 1964, All Saints Church, Mobile, agreed to a request by their Rector, the Reverend Francis B. Wakefield, Jr. who had encouraged the services, to accept the work at Saint Mary's as a Parochial Mission of All Saints. The services were moved to the Fowl River Community Center for the winter months. The construction of a building for the Mission began in the late Spring of 1965. This was a job accomplished by members & community volunteers on Dec. 19, 1965.
