The Capitol Sounds Concert Band is a community band based in Montgomery, AL, serving the River Region since 1972. Originally known as the Montgomery Community Band, it was formed by a group of former high school and college band members as a recreational activity. Under the direction of John Jackson since 2003, the band maintains high performance standards and presents challenging music for concerts, while also participating in various community events throughout the year. Sponsored by the City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department, the Capitol Sounds Concert Band welcomes individuals who have played in concert bands during their high school or college years and wish to continue playing. While there is no formal audition, prospective members are required to have an interview with the band director before attending rehearsals.
