The Pelham Fire Department is a public safety and community service department that offers emergency and nonemergency services. Founded in 1964 as a volunteer organization, the department employs more than 80 personnel. Its emergency services include fire and medical aid. It also includes situations deemed special in nature, such as trench rescue, high-angle rescue, swift water and dive rescue and response to hazardous materials. The department s personnel are qualified at the basic emergency medical technician level. Located in Pelham, Ala., the department s nonemergency services include building plan reviews, fire code enforcement, fire cause determination and public education. The Pelham Fire Department maintains a fleet of trucks and engines. It also operates facilities for drill sessions and fire prevention training.
