Founded in 1982, Alabama Department of Environmental Management administers all major federal environmental laws, including the clean air, clean water and safe drinking water acts and federal solid and hazardous waste laws. It enforces rules and regulations consistent with the statutory authority granted to the Alabama Environmental Management Commission and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management to protect and improve the quality of Alabama s environment and health of all its citizens. The department monitors environmental conditions in Alabama and recommends changes in the state law and revises regulations to respond appropriately to changing environmental conditions. It is based in Montgomery, Ala.
