Elmore Correctional Facility was originated as a temporary institution in 1981 in the state of Alabama. It has a capacity for more than 1,000 inmates. The facility features a kitchen, dining hall, laundry, law library, and visiting and substance abuse treatment areas. Elmore Correctional Facility s inmates have opportunity to participate in several religious, recreational, educational and self-help programs. It is a part of the Alabama Department of Corrections, which is a medium-sized correctional system that employs over 3,400 employees with an inmate population of nearly 26,000 prisoners. The Alabama Department of Corrections maintains approximately 20 facilities throughout the state of Alabama.
