Founded in 1983, Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is organized into nine divisions that include administrative, communication and information, community services, surplus property and law enforcement and traffic safety. The department provides governor with a mechanism to encourage comprehensive and coordinated planning and programming of economic and community affairs. It performs several subfunctions, such as planning and programming, dissemination and publicity, application and disbursement, monitoring and reporting, and processing and distribution. Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs also keeps on releasing information to the news media in order to keep the public informed and to promote various grant programs. In addition, the department publishes brochures, pamphlets, guides, directories, monthly newsletters and other informational packets to advertise available funding programs for business and industrial communities. It is located in Montgomery, Ala.
