Founded in 1967, Dodge Elementary School serves more than 1,000 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The school serves children with a range of disorders that have stemmed from physical and learning disabilities, emotional disturbances, developmental delays, and cognitive, visual and hearing impairments. It is one of the first schools in the country to be recognized as a Blue Ribbon School. Dodge Elementary School offers a phonics-based reading program that gives instruction in reading comprehension, phonics, writing, spelling and grammar. The school has a staff that includes an administrative assistant, counselor, nurse, instructional specialist, technologist and speech therapists. Located in Mobile, Ala., it is a part of Mobile County Public Schools.
