The Cultural Arts Center is a non-profit organization established in May 2002 to connect the Arts to our Community. Housed in the old Southside Elementary School, the Center has been renovated to accommodate various arts and service organizations in the Wiregrass, providing a venue for talented artists to gather and perform. These organizations provide instruction in different areas of the arts, enriching the citizens of Dothan and the surrounding communities. The Center is home to Southeast Alabama Community Theatre, Southeast Alabama Dance Company, Tri-State Community Orchestra, Dothan Wiregrass Art League, Patti Rutland Jazz, Music South, the National Railroad Historical Society and the Dothan Service League, Dothan-Houston County Substance Abuse Partnership, and the SAFE Program. The Center is partially funded by a grant from Alabama State Arts Council marked to provide after school instruction in dance, piano, art, chorus, and strings to underserved children in the area. The Center has enriched more than 2, 000 children to many different arts disciplines that are not currently available in the public and county school systems. In the future, we hope to see The Center evolve into a fine arts school for the underserved and grow our partnership role in the school system. The Center is also available to rent for a variety of special events and receptions. A state-of-the-art wide screen movie projector was installed enabling The Center to provide our rental clients with audiovisual capabilities for events and receptions. The auditorium and banquet hall provides spacious areas for any special occasion at a reasonable price.
