History
The Avon Theater is rich in history. Built in 1926 and designed by prominent architect Charles H. McCauley, the theater is considered some of the finest architecture in the city. This building was probably McCauley's first Tudor-style commercial space, and it served as a prototype for later similar designs in Birmingham (i.e. Mountain Brook Village, English Village). It remains one of the only Tudor-style structures in the Southside area and is on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2007, the Avon was renovated and became the home of Red Mountain Church and also opened its doors as an event venue.
