Dr. Alona was born in Birmingham, Alabama but was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She lived there for 27 years. After high school, she attended Vogue Beauty Academy in Cleveland, OH. She received her instructors license while she was there. In 1981, she won first place in a hair design competition, which helped jump start her career. Following this, she held a platform artist position with major companies such as SoftSheen, Clairol and Quadra Curl. Alona opened her first salon in 1984 called Just 4 U. It was one of the top salons in Cleveland. She owned that shop until 1991 then she moved to Atlanta, Georgia. After moving to Atlanta, G.A. she worked in a barber shop of 9 males barbers. With Alona being the only female, it became a unisexed shop. They were really amazed with barbering skills. Afterwards, she opened another hair salon named Just 4 U 2. Alona was an educator and manager at both Beatrice Beauty Academy and Mimi's Beauty Academy.
