Located on 17th avenue SW, Calcutta Cricket Club serves West Bengal-influenced cuisine that represents the region’s complex geography, history and culture. Calcutta has seen waves of influence, from it’s Mughal origins, to the influence of the British Raj, and the more recent influence from Chinese “Hakka” and Jewish bakeries. Modern-day Calcutta cuisine is heavily influenced by it’s vast migrant communities, who bring dishes from all over India. CCC draws inspiration all the way from these humble migrant street-food stalls to legendary brick-and-mortar clubs, and finally from family recipes that have been passed down from generations. Local Calgary artist Maya Gohill has lent her keen eye for design to the restaurant’s interior. Like her art, the room has an unfettered and playful quality, while maintaining a level of sophistication. With its Indian 60s social club-meets-the Golden Girls aesthetic, you can anticipate a chic, tropical, and nostalgic feel.
