Newark Liberty International Airport EWR is the busiest airport in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area in terms of flights. In 2012, Newark Liberty Airport serviced over 34 million passengers. Originally opening in 1928 it is the oldest airfield in America and later becoming the first to build a commercial airline terminal.
Located directly 15 miles southwest of Manhattan, EWR Airport is a municipality oddity, in which the airport is owned by the city of Newark, New Jersey, while being run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ).
