On September 7, 1963, the Right Reverend Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of Bridgeport, founded St. Bridget Church named the Reverend Thomas P. Guinan its first pastor. The families of this new parish worshipped in a neighboring chapel and school until construction of the new church was complete. The dedication of St. Bridget's Chapel-Auditorium-School took place on June 25, 1965. After many years of worshipping in the Chapel-Auditorium, the parish undertook the monumental task of renovating the Church. Under the leadership of Rev. Jazowski, the present structure was built and, on June 14, 1987, Bishop Curtis formally dedicated the completely renovated St. Bridget of Ireland Church. Reverend Gill C. Babeu was assigned to St. Bridget's as pastor in 1997. Under his direction, the church has continued to evolve and grow to its current status. Today the parish is over 700 families strong. It has a newly built kitchen and renovated hall to hold events. It has an active and full religious education program currently serving 160 families, special children's homilies and family Masses, as well as more groups and activities than ever before. In spring of 2003 we dedicated the beautiful Our Lady of Strawberry Hill Shrine . This quiet refuge in the heart of Stamford has become a special spot for local residents and visitors to stop offer a prayer. St. Bridget of Ireland Church looks to its future with quiet reflection on all that has been accomplished and with hopeful anticipation for all that is yet to be.
